  • Lingual correction of a complex Class III malocclusion: Esthetic treatment without sacrificing quality results

    Vol. XXIV, No. 2 - October 2017

    Christopher S. Riolo, DDS, M.S, Ph.D.

    • 0.014 NiTi wires engaged into the upper and lower arches of teeth

Complex orthodontic treatment is sometimes seen to be outside the capability of esthetic appliance options, but this case study demonstrates a quality result for a difficult malocclusion through the use of lingual appliances. Dr. Christopher Riolo demonstrates how he was able to achieve his clinical goals to an ABO quality finish while meeting his patient’s requirements for esthetics during treatment. The type of correction required is not likely achieved with clear aligners, but lingual appliances provided both the mechanical and esthetic solution.
